EX Richards Burns sub 800 mile Mitsubishi Evolution V Underbody Restoration By Auto Torque

Something very special has just arrived into our care here at Auto Torque.

Purchased new by a former Mitsubishi works driver and World Rally Champion, this 1998 Mitsubishi Evolution V GSR has covered just 792 miles since it left the Nagoya factory in Japan. Until very recently the car remained in a private collection alongside WRC competition stable mates.

Presented in Pyrenees black pearl, featuring all original equipment in ‘as new’ condition. Most notably Recaro seats finished in grey cloth with black alcantara, Brembo brakes and 17″ OZ Racing wheels.

This modern classic with unrivalled provenance, will shortly be available to own with full details to follow. Go check out www.atpcars.co.uk for purchase details.

The current owner Richard and his Son Gavins passion for these fine rare cars show in their enthusiasm and love to restore them to the very best standard and let their former glory shine. I believe Richards words to me when he dropped it off were along the lines of, ‘I want it looking like new’ and the challenge was accepted.

Without further ado, we couldn’t wait to get a look under the car and see what we were faced with. The overall chassis was very good and rot free, slight surface rust on the metal components but as expected. Worst of all was the light corrosion which covered places on the  floor pan, brackets and brake/fuel lines, where somewhere in its previous life was stored in a damp enviroment. Above are a few pictures of the condition once we stripped the mechanical components off , also showing before, during and after photos of the restoration process

There were100s of man-hours that went into this restoration, and we have 1000s of photos that document the process, we have only put a handful up so you can get the idea of how far we take our restorations.

After the underbody was complete we handed it over to LAVA Studios for a 2 stage machine polish/paint correction and ceramic coating to make it what we believe to be the best UK Evo V in the country, if not the world!!

 Below is the finished article.
